About This Attraction
Built by the Portuguese in 1624 and later expanded by the Dutch and British, Fort Frederick overlooks Trincomalee Harbour and contains historical ramparts, walls, and views of the bay. While it’s still used by the Sri Lankan military, the main historic areas and surrounding walkways are open to the public. Visitors enjoy exploring the old fort entrance, remnants of colonial architecture, and panoramic vistas of the sea.
