About This Attraction
Thuparamaya is Sri Lanka’s oldest documented stupa, built in the 3rd century BCE under King Devanampiya Tissa to honor Buddhism soon after its introduction to the island. The stupa is believed to enshrine the Buddha’s right clavicle relic and stands amid ancient pillars and stone foundations, offering a serene glimpse of early Buddhist architecture.
