Pidurangala

The Pidurangala Viharaya in the Sigiriya village in Matale District is situated at a height of 340 meters above the sea level.
 Pidurangala Parvatha is situated at an inclination of about 45 degrees.  Today, you can see the ruins of ancient caves as well as a large sleeping Buddha statue.  The statue is made of a special mortar made of clay and brick.  The statue has been designed to be visible to the lion’s foot in Sigiriya.
 Excavations were carried out under the supervision of Prof. Senarath Paranavitana in 1902 and the diameter of the stupa is 16 feet.  Pidurangala Stupa has been discovered in the island as a systematic relics.
