The yapahuwa kingdom was a fortress, surrounded by trenches & walls & surrounded by a rock like sigiriya. The royal palace was at the top of rock. after the polonnaruwa period there were frequent foreign invasions. Therefore the security has been established in the kingdom. Not only in the city., but also in the greater pant of the city, security has been well established.
The staircase is made out of stones with beautiful stone decors After climbing the stairs, you will enter a wooden door. There are two windows on either side of the pavilion.
A stone cave with floral carvings applied to those window openings can be seen at the yapahuwa museum.One of the recognizable building at the top of the yapahuwa park is the small dagaba which is thought to have been built during the kandyan period.
The starway to the top of the rock was located on the south side of the rock as the north, eats & west sides of the rock were precipitation. The ruins of a temple can be seen at the foot of yapahuw park. The paintings & sculptures found in this area belong to the kandyan period.
